Here’s our plain language explainer of yesterday’s Five Eyes cyber security agencies joint call to action on the threat of AI.
Frontier AI refers to the newest and most powerful generation of Artificial Intelligence, designed to solve problems and perform tasks that were previously beyond the reach of computers. Because these systems are so capable, governments and cybersecurity agencies are paying close attention to the risks they could pose if misused or poorly controlled.
They:
- are not a future threat; they are here, right now.
- will make it easier for cybercriminals to attack you with faster, more complex attacks.
- will considerably reduce the time between cyber security vulnerabilities being discovered and subsequently being exploited.
You need to:
- Fully understand your cyber risks.
- Ensure your staff are trained in good cyber practices.
- Ensure your cyber defences are adequate for your needs.
- Keep software updated. Applying updates should now be a priority.
- Ensure someone is responsible for maintaining your cyber safety.
- Keep up to date with advice and guidance from organisations like the NCSC.
